Water hibiscus- Dwarf red

Water hibiscus- Dwarf red

(Hibiscus moscheutos ) This is an especially compact variety,of water Hibiscus. It forms a medium-sized bushy mound of dark green leaves. Huge saucer-shaped flowers appear in mid summer and continue until frost. This variety has blooms of rich solid red. Plants prefer evenly moist to wet soil and sunny conditions. Stems die back completely to the ground in winter, but new growth is slow to appear in spring, so be patient! Old stems can be pruned to the ground in mid spring. A thick mulch for the first winter is recommended, especially in colder areas like Zones 4 and 5. These are nice sized plants that will bloom this year in 2 inch pots and ready for replanting.

Yellow-eyed Grass medium

Yellow-eyed Grass medium

(Xyris serotina) This is an amazing looking plant. Despite it's common name, it is NOT a True grass. It is a perennial, so it will come back year after year. It prefers to be in zone 5 or higher, but it will do well if potted and moved indoors for winter. It has wide leaves in a dull green, with both purple and reddish spots and highlights. The flower comes up from a main leaf as a thin, but strong tubular stalk that ends in a purple " pine-cone." From this pine cone, a 3 petaled Bright yellow flower opens in the morning and is closed by evening to barely show its yellow petals. This plant loves wet boggy soil and an acid planting medium is appreciated, but not absolutely necessary. It can withstand almost full sun to almost complete shade, with moderately diffused sunlight being its favorite. Medium sized specimens that will fit in a 4 inch pot and fill it out fairly quickly
