Amaryllis vittata-
(Amaryllis vittata) This is a great marginal lily. it is hardy as far north as Zone 7. Otherwise, you can bring it in once it dies back and keep in newspaper until the following spring. The flowers are a white sometimes with a hot pink center and midribs . The flowers come up on one to three stalks a year with 3-7 flowers atop each stalk. These prefer to have wet roots so plant them CLOSE to waters edge. These are sold as single bare root growing bulbs.
$4.95
Add:
Arrow Arum
(Peltandra virginica) The Arrow Arum is planted from a seed (about the size of a marble). It should be planted in the Spring and will produce a seed ball (about the size of a tennis ball) that will be filled with seed (about the size of a kernel of corn). The seed ball will split open in the Fall and the seed will float on the water. Suggested planting is in the Spring. It can be planted in damp muddy soil to 18 inches of water. It grows in areas of highest light and darkest shade. A perennial that grows in clumps. It has arrow shaped leaves. Grows in moist soils to shallow water. Plants will be one year olds sent bare root. They will likely flower and seed. Flowers look much like a calla lily.

Add:
Blue Bells
( Ruellia brittoniana )Winter hardy to USDA Zone 8 (maybe Zone 7 with protection and mulch) where it is best grown in medium to wet soils in full sun to part shade. Best flowering is in full sun. This is a versatile plant that tolerates an extremely wide range of growing conditions. It thrives as a marginal water plant and in boggy soils, but also does surprisingly well in average garden soils as long as moisture is consistent. It can reach 3 foot but usually stas at about 2 foot tall.Plants tolerate high heat and humidity. New plants may be rooted from stem cuttings. It should be noted that species plants have naturalized in the southeastern U. S., and some Ruellia species are currently listed as Category I invasive species by the Florida Exotic Pest Plant Council. In cooler climates plants may be grown as annuals, with stem cuttings overwintered indoors. Sold as single bare root portions with several growing stems.

Add:
Bogbean
(Menyanthes trifoliata)Bogbean, or Buckbean, is an interesting perennial marginal plant that occurs naturally in bogs and marshes across Asia, Europe, and North America. Bogbean is a horizontal rhizome with alternate, trifoliate leaves. The olive-green trefoil leaflets will stick out of the water up to 6" and have spikes of pink and white flowers with fringed petals.Individual Bogbean plants are extremely suitable for container water gardening as they prefer very wet soil or submersed up to 6 inches. Plant Bogbean directly in the pond at a maximum depth of 6", then the Bogbean will produce very attractive clusters of small star-shaped delicate whitish-pink color flowers. When the petals are fully open they are covered with a soft white fluff, or fringe. these are sold as individual stems with roots about 9-10" tall

Add:
Crinum americanum
(Crinum americanum) I did not take pics of flowers last year an d they have not bloomed yet this year but they look similar to a white spider lily. Crinum americanum grows in Zones 7 to 11. It may die back to the ground during winter in Zones 7 and 8, but will return in the spring. It grows best in partial shade, but will grow in full sun. It will grow in any type of soil and is moderately drought tolerant. Crinum americanum will also grow in wet areas, such as along the edge of water or in low-lying boggy places. It is a good plant for coastal gardens, because it is tolerant of salt spray. Crinum americanum is a slow-growing, long-lived plant. It gradually spreads by offsets from the mother plant. Established plants do not like to be disturbed, but new plants may be started from offsets or by seeds. these are shipped as bare root growing bulbs

Add:
Dwarf Horsetail rush
(Equisetum scirpoides) A dwarf variety of horsetail rush, this small pond plant is quite attractive when planted in a bog area or near the edge of the pond. Dwarf Horsetail is a nice foreground plant that is evergreen in most areas. Green foliage is accented with horizontal black bands. Dwarf Horsetail does best in moist soil but, will tolerate seasonal flooding. Will not grow submerged with water above the top of the plant. these are sold as a 2 inch pot of plants
$6.75
Add:
Dwarf Onion
(Zephyranthes candida) Dwarf Onions are a great starter onion plant for the aquarium. They can grow about 15 inches tall at best with a number of leaves that look like an onion. They have an onion like bulb as well. Plant them so the bulb is no more than halfway under the substrate. They prefer Medium light or better and some water flow over their leaves is preferred. but not necessary. These can be planted and thrive on ponds edge as well as fully terrestrial. They are often called rain lilies or Zephyr rain lilies when terrestrial. They tend to bloom immediately after a rain if planted completely out of the water. They can reproduce quite well in either situation by developing small "baby" bulbs on the sides of the mother bulbs.

Four Leaf Clover
(Marsilea quadrafolia) Four Leaf Clover is an easy aquatic plant. It will grow underwater of grow leaves to the surface If the water is shallow enough. It will stay pretty low if the water is deep enough. It can be used as a pond plant, Marginal plant or a Bog plant as well. It is not picky about water parameters and will thrive in cool water or tropical tanks. It needs Medium Lighting to do best. This is a 2X2" section of roots as shown in the picture of fully submerged Marsilea. It will adapt quickly to your tank or to a pond, marginal or bog situation as well. Most people have trouble with this plant when they get it, as it is usually grown fully emersed and will kind of die back when put under water. Not with ours, as we grow it underwater and it will easily adapt to emersed without major leaf death.
