Crypt beckettii

Crypt beckettii

(Cryptocoryne beckettii) Is a typical Crypt.. it is not too picky about water conditions as long as they stay consistent. pH 55-8 is fine, hardnes s of 1-20 is fine.. Low to medium light is best and a Nutritious substrate. these develop a beautiful red hue but do NOT like to be moved around as each Move will stress it and lead to Crypt melt.. but n as always leave it where it is even if melt occurs. A substrate mixed with clay and peat is best but most any will do as long as you make sure to supply nutrients to the roots without a major disturbance during each fertilizing occasion. Cryptocoryne albida v. costata Pink

Cryptocoryne albida v. costata Pink

( Cryptocoryne albida v. costata, Crypt albida, Crypt costata) Cryptocoryne albida has lanceolate leaves placed in a dense rosette. The leaf colour is extremely variable - for example due to differences in substrate composition and light- but it is usually brightly green with distinctive pink /brown blushes. In nature, Cryptocoryne albida is often found in direct sunlight and the plant is somewhat light demanding for a typical Crypt. Thus, usually poor growth of Cryptocoryne albidav costata pink is due to insufficient light. The plant does well in soft water with a nutrient rich substrate. It is one of the slow growing Crytocorynes though the emergent plants tend to grow a bit faster.

Cryptocoryne balansae

Cryptocoryne balansae

(Cryptocoryne crispatula var. balansae) This is one of the larger taller Crypts as the leaves can sometimes reach 22" in length, though this is kinda' rare. It does best toward the background of the aquarium without a doubt though. The leaves are dimpled and dark green. C. balansae, like all crypts, sometimes suffers from melting when first placed in a new tank. This is NOT the end of the world. Leave the root in place and it will grow back. It dislikes being moved, so try to place it and leave it. Medium to highlight is preferred. and it will take slightly acid to slightly alkaline water with no concerns. Really the only thing to watch is do not move it alot or it will melt. If you do move it then try to make sure the water conditions in its new location are similar to the old location or it will melt. If it does melt, just wait as patiently as possible because it will sport new leaves in a fairly short period of adjustment.

Cryptocoryne blassii / Giant Crypt

Cryptocoryne blassii / Giant Crypt

Cryptocoryne blassi AKA Giant Crypt is a typical though large Cryptocoryne. A very striking plant with narrow oval leaves with bluntly pointed tips. The leaf structure may be quite puckered or it may be smooth. The color of the upper surface varies from olive-green to wine-red; the underside is red. The leaves, up to 6incheslong and 2.5inches wide, are on petioles about 4-6 inches long. A background plant suitable for large aquariums not less than 50 cm deep. Usually found growing on limestone, this species tolerates hard water well. Once established, it will send out a good number of runners. Do not remove these from the parent plant until they are well developed and have strong roots. When moved, the plant is vulnerable and takes time to acclimate like all crypts( crypt melt). And,like all crypts, should it melt leave the root tuber in place and it will grow back larger than it was before it melted. these are sold as single plants.
