Rotala rotundafolia

US NativeThis is commonly called Rotala indica but is actually Rotala rotundafolia. This is not a true Native American plant but has been introduced fairly widely by rice growers so it is naturalized.
This is an easy stem plant to grow and is naturalized in much of the southern US. It has a wonderful pink, lavender, and green foliage which is long and kind of narrow underwater but changes to round as the plant grows out of the water. It can be grown in Bog situations, with no trouble at all. It likes medium low to medium light and will root readily.
