Vallisneria nana

Vallisneria nana is a solitary contrast plant with dark green, rosulate, narrow leaves. It is extremely suitable as a mid-ground plant, but can also be used as a background plant in smaller tanks. The leaves are much narrower than with other species of Val. In its natural habitat of northern Australia, Vallisneria nana reaches a height of only 15 cm, but in aquariums it typically grows to 30-50 cm, which is due to the different light and nutrient conditions. Vallisneria nana produces offshoots very readily, so compact vegetation will soon develop in good conditions. again this has very small leaves for a Val and looks similar to True giant hairgrass. Unlike the giant hairgrass however, the val nana leaves stay in the water even if they grow taller than the tank. Instead of shooting up out of the water they lay over and stay in water but on the surface like many other Vals.
